For many decades families have been the backbone of Merimbula, they return year after year and grow with the surrounds.
The water playgrounds provide safety and tranquility for families starting out and challenges are scaled-up as the kids become teens.
Beach icons likes Mitches jetty will stay with you forever, as will the screams of joy at the one and only Magic Mountain.
For the most part your Merimbula family adventures will involve all things ‘sand and sea’ and everything that makes it tick. You can even experience the wonders of ocean life up close without getting wet. The Merimbula Wharf and Aquarium bring the ocean to you and over the summer holidays you can immerse yourself in the marine life with National Park Adventure programmes.
Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre
The Sapphire Coast Marine Discovery Centre will entertain and educate the whole family. It has live aquaria, a very popular touch tank where you can get up close and personal with live marine animals, beautiful video footage, microscopes, a beach combing table and loads of information about the temperate marine environment.
With qualified marine scientists on staff, there are indoor and outdoor activities that will fill the family with wonder: enjoy a Rocky Shore Ramble or guided Snorkel Tour or the kids can participate in indoor educational craft activities during school holidays.
Located in the popular Snug Cove Wharf precinct, the Centre is open from 10am – 3pm Tuesday to Saturday during School Holidays and 11am – 2pm Tuesday to Friday during school term (closed Public Holidays). The Centre will open outside these hours for a booking of 10 or more.
The Centre is a rarity where children are not only allowed to touch the exhibits but are actively encouraged to do so.
“The kids were so entertained with hands-on activities, the touch tank is the best!”
